Objectives
Classroom Laptops are connected to a server in order to:
* Eliminate student and teacher dependence on a specific computer. Any computer can access each person's documents, including Google Drive documents.
* Eliminate the need for USB drives to share files between computers and people.
* Reduce the chance of lost documents (failed hard drives or lost USB drives).
Password Resets
If you have forgotten your password, let John Barrett/Christine Medina know or send a note to t@rpms.org. Once your password is reset, change it again to your desired password and inform your teacher of what it is if you are a student.
Notes and Tips
* Administrator ID prompts: If you are ever prompted for an Administrator ID/Password, talk to a teacher and inform them of what you were trying to do. Teachers can use the user account Teacher and the regular Teacher password to provide the necessary authorization for the student to continue. The Teacher ID has local administrative rights on each computer but does not provide rights to view other user's files.
* Printing: All color laser and copiers have been setup on the computers. Be sure to look at the printer you are about to print!
* File Locations: Each student and teacher has their own Documents (and Desktop) files which are stored centrally on the server. Additionally, each classroom has a shared folder accessible from the Dock (e.g. Aspen Shared). Additionally, there is a classroom homework folder (e.g. Aspen Homework) that each teacher has full rights to and students can simply "drop" files into (but they cannot view or edit files within this folder).
* Temporary Files: As of mid-February, 2012, temporary files are stored locally on each individual computer for the duration of the user's session. Temporary files include Safari history, top sites, and autofill.
The Computer Cart
* All computers should be stored in carts with power cords attached overnight.
* Computer carts should stay locked and stored in their respective rooms in the evening.
* They should be plugged in and the power switch set to interior outlet power so computers charge and are ready for the next day.
* Before plugging or unplugging the card from a power outlet, always turn the power switch to off on the cart (middle position).
* You will find brakes on two of the wheels of the cart and directional locks on the other two wheels. These make it easier to run the cart down the hall.
